Welcome to the Central Virginia Region

  • Welcome!

    State of VA

This is the main site for the Central Virginia Region of the North-South Skirmish Association.

The Central Virginia Region is one of thirteen regions that comprises the North-South Skirmish Association. The N-SSA is dedicated to preserving the history of the American Civil War by shooting original and direct reproduction firearms and artillery of the period. Firing is done at local skirmishes, which have competitive live firing of muskets, carbines, revolvers, breechloading rifles, smoothbores and artillery. Skirmishes, in our case, would be defined as the live firing of period firearms in competition...

    Lytle Changes/Information

In regards to the Lytle Trophy competition, we need to have a discussion on what to do in the event of a tie. The top three teams for this years' competition made a decision before we started shooting, since a tie-breaker was very possible; but I would like to have a discussion and a vote on this at our next meeting, at the Veteran's Skirmish in July. We asked some of the older statesmen (putting it nicely) and the consensue that came back was that a tie-breaker would be the team that shot the most (versus hosting). We all agreed that hosting is a duty and can be a bonus or a detriment, so this method is not necessarily fair. We agreed, and I am proposing, that if there is a tie score in the Lytle Standings, the winner shall be determined by whomever finishes higher at the final match of the trophy year, which would be the Central Virginia Regional Trophy Skirmish. As the name implies, this is our trophy match, so if there is a need for a tie-breaker, it should be determined at this skirmish, which is the culmination of a years' worth of points. Please think about this method and bring any discussion and suggestion to our next meeting.

    Central Virginia Regional Skirmish

Thanks to all of the teams that made it out to our CV Regional. Bill Tate and Jeff Davis Legion did an outstanding job with very few staff members on hand! The weather turned out great, as we had mostly dry skies, and the partipation was good, although I was surprised that it was more than attended. I know that the NRA Convention was in Pittsburgh this particular weekend, but am hoping for more attendance at our next skirmish. Hopefully next year we can grow more, as a region.

Please see this page for information on when your team is hosting their next CV Regional Trophy Skirmish. Regional Hosting Schedule.

    33rd Virginia Infantry, Company D
Please welcome our newest Central Virginia team, the 33rd Virginia Infantry! These guys came out of the gates very STRONG, almost taking the CV Musket Award for their first year! We welcome them all to the ranks, and wish them the best. It looks like the compteition is going to be tough this year!

    Regional Wish List idea

I want to pass this on to every member on our rosters...By the CV Regional, I would like to put together a 'Wish List' for Fort Shenandoah and/or the N-SSA in general. I am serious here, but your wishes can be for whatever you think is of importance, and would like to see in the next five (5) years. If your 'wish' requires an estimate, please feel free to develop a price quote or an estimate, and include that in your proposal.

As an example, on my own wish list, I would like to see $10K per bathroom across the Fort for remodeling! It would be nice to be able to use and not worry all the time about water consumption and whether or not it is going to flush 'this time!' Covering the revolver range is not on my 10 year wish list; but it is on some peoples' lists. Please ask questions, and give me some ideas and feedback on your thoughts and suggestions.

Contacts in the Directory have been updated, but if you see a mistake, please let myself and the webmistress know ASAP. Thanks!

    Then and Now Pages

I would really like to have "Then and Now" pages for all teams in the Central Virginia Region. Please let me know if you have a short biography of your team, and a team picture. I think this effort may help prospective people who are looking for more specific information on a team. Please email me or Craig with any questions or other items that you would like to see addressed.

Please let me know if you spot any mistakes on these pages. I have updated what info I have on the Directory, but if there are any other changes please let me know as soon as you possibly can. I will post links to Skirmishes as they come available. Thank for your patience.

Please let me know if there are any sites that you would like listed on the "Links" pages - or if you have any additional ideas for the site. Thanks.
